DRS- The Disastrous Review System

There was a time when I wished Australia to lose the series badly. You know the reason, but now, after the incidents in the Ongoing Investec Bank Ashes contest, I feel pity for them. The root for all these problems started when Australia toured India early this year, they lost the series badly. Now when I mean badly, I mean they were humiliated by the home team, a whitewash! Can you imagine? Australia though had new players in its line-up, the hunger to win could not be found in them. They were ready to learn and they did learn, but it was little late as India had the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in its Hall of Fame already.

All throughout the series, it was evident that Australia was even more concerned with the Ashes than their current one. That is not a good approach, especially for a team which had tasted victories more than anyone else and had dominated the world of cricket for years. Ashes is something prestigious, no series can equal the intensity of an Ashes, some would say. That’s all valid but not at the expense of losing the team’s confidence level ahead of what is considered to be one of the fiercest rivalries ever. Thereby even before the first ball of Ashes was bowled, most of us knew Australia were underprepared compared to the witty English, who played like Kings on their home ground. So then started the first test which our Aussie team lost by a narrow margin, thanks to DRS. Decision Review System introduced in cricket to eliminate errors made in the Umpiring decisions did bring in with itself a wide range of criticism after the first test. I guess it is high time we find a system to rectify the mistakes of the DRS. But wait! Why do we need systems? Third umpire for finding out ‘OUT’ or ‘NOT OUT’ during hard run-out or stumping is fine, but why do we need to correct the umpire’s mistakes? The reason being, Humans commit mistakes! But the one who holds the bat with more protective guards than a fire engineer or the one who bowls at 140 kmph running from the pavilion are also humans, aren’t they? So this is what they evolution? They say we need to get adapted to the modern technologies, even the controversial Duckworth-Lewis system is not understood by many including the bright minds on earth. Alright, leaving aside D/L for now, this DRS thing included in itself a technology call Hot-Spot, which is where the English got it’s breeze of luck and went on to win the match and the series. As I write this, England retain the Ashes with a 2-1 victory over Australia with still a match to go. Every time the players on the field are not happy with the umpire’s decision, they raise their hands in a ‘T’ like structure, meaning they need to review , there comes first Slap for the umpire. After consulting the Third umpire, when the decision is found to be wrong, you will find one of the world’s best umpires laying down their head ashamed and their hands in an X like formation with a  ‘ I am sorry fellas, I was wrong and your technology was right’ look on his face. My question is then why have umpires in the ground? Give the technology its full freedom and let’s see how well it goes. Cricket having been invented to have fun, among humans I suppose, is losing its charm. We can accept technology in the game, but not at the cost of the very reason it was found for. We cannot continue to them when its liability has been questioned in the recent days. At least invent technologies which are completely reliable! Am afraid , if this continues, we will soon find all Robots playing a T20 at the Lords while the humans start holding the ‘OUT’ or ‘NOT OUT’ banners or placards in place of the big screen! God save the game!

An Engineer is what i am going to be called!

It all started three years back, my whole family was waiting in front of the computer to watch my Board exam results, then came came the moment, i was cheered by everyone in my family. They were celebrating and i enjoyed the joy in their faces. One fine day i got a letter from Sastra University( so called my 'dream college' ) stating the date for counselling. Just like every other guy after twelfth standard, even i wanted to do Mechanical Engineering( Please do not ask me why and also please do not think it was because of the influence of some Gautham Menon movie! Nothing of that sort!! ) , but just as expected i did not get a mechanical seat, instead got landed in to a POWER-full field, yes! Am Basically a soon-to-become Electrical Engineer which means that i will get a degree by 2014 June with a big 'Phew! That was quite a course' look on my face. 'Ouch! It is the second time i am getting cut by a..by a... connecting wire in my Machines Lab-II' , i said to myself as i kept cursing myself for being among all those ready-to-be-turned-into-Transformers machines, and the only thing which pacified me then was that my scream could not be heard in the midst of the machine sound. Of course i never got the thought of writing about all these just because i got cut by a wire?!! . Alright, enough of Machine Talk! So, Considering the fact that this is going to be a lengthy write up, i feel i can continue it in my upcoming blogs, hopefully! Anyway, getting back to tat whole lot of admission thing, oops! sorry! i guess i told that already. See this is what i have become after all the Short-circuit and Open-circuit concepts. For all those who say 'You being an Electrical Engineer, cant you even find the fault in the ordinary bulb or fan?' , there is more than just wires inside them!!

One Of The Happiest Nights !

When do we get a calm n sound sleep..  Only when we are free from worries, free from commitments..And most importantly when we are happy! . The reason for me being so philosophical is because i recently had one such night! That too on the day of my birthday. And i dedicate it completely to my friends. Feb 13 had been just like any other day till 2 o clock , after which the rest of the day had been a roller coaster ride! With full of twists and turns, i had one of the most memorable birthdays anyone can have!! . They say this is the age when one needs to make wise friends.. but, i feel one cannot make friends..may be they can, but The Close Friends are few who are God's Gift to us. The Foremost reason being the kind of relationship one has with his close friends.. Right from " MAchiiiiiii..." to " Yo Dude.. Wassup? " the intensity of friendship is just the same. That is why i still believe in " Nanbaen da! "  (That One word which when spelled out brings out pulsating vibes throughout!!).  These are the years which i can bet one would surely miss in his coming years.. these are the years one can cherish the memories.. these are the years one finds the  true friend. I am very happy to have found them. When we ask  honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find it that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and a tender hand. And that is what friendship is all about! No boundaries, no limits.. except for Sky! A true friend never gets in your way unless you are going down. Am graced to have spent one the beautiful days with my best friends. I did not get a chance to thank my friends for that amazing day! " Thanks MAchi! YO Man thanks dude! " ;)

The Future Of Indian Cricket

How long has it been since An Indian Bowler has had the tag " Right arm Fast" or "Left Arm Fast" while he came in to bowl..( even i cant remember! ). Yes, am one of you guys..eagerly waiting to witness such a breakthrough in our team. Expecting what is called a " Steyn  performance " from a fast bowler. ( though practically its impossible to replicate such a performance) . The other day while watching the highlights of RSA Vs PAK test match, i noticed one important thing.. The pace factor! well, you can ask me ' does pace play an important role on our soil ' .. Obviously my answer would be ' No!! ' .But to be judged a better team, its very important to perform overseas!! And for performing, you need resources.. And those resources just cannot be spinners.. The Fast Bowlers cannot rely entirely on Swing! unless you have got pace, you cannot strike.. Especially In Australia and South Africa, the rate at which yo strike wickets depend on pace too.. You can relate to the incidents of Praveen Kumar , Vinay Kumar and so many other 'kumars' who failed to perform in one of the worst years for Indian Cricket during their back to back defeats in 8 matches!! ( that's actually a huge number, thank god we have got no more touring fixtures for the next few years to England and Australia) . And if you noticed one more thing, Umesh Yadav was the player who caught the attention of the board of selectors during the Aussie series. ( but as expected, he too joined the list of injury hit players soon..) . With the Departure of Dravid, Laxman just in a matter of few months has added to the woes of the Team. The main reason being the inability to post a defendable total. Unless you have got enough runs on board, you can never expect a turnover from our bowlers.. Gone are those days when a Kumble or A Harbhajan just rattles the top order of the opponents. The Present Board of selectors are looking for a long term plan for our Indian Cricket, which is actually good.. With the below par performance from the openers- Sehwag and Gambhir affecting the performance of the team, those men who decide the team for the upcoming series against Australia will look to take some bold decisions ( please do not expect me to again use the word 'Revenge series'. The previous experience satisfied me a lot). With The Indian players having the much needed rest( which they have not got for a very long time) and the due return of Our Pace Bowlers- Zaheer, Umesh, Pathan, we have got an interesting contest on this year's calender. The Only player who can repair the team and bolster the line up is our Stylish, dashing Captain MSD! All Hail our Captain Cool! Lets pray that injured players get back to our team as soon as possible.

My First Attempt.

So Here I am.. Sharing my first ever blog! right from my childhood i have always wanted to write a diary.. But before that, i forgot to introduce myself. I am Ajay and to describe myself in a single word.. " LAZYYYY". So now i guess you would have understood what happened to that diary plan..yes! it got scrapped!! . then slowly i realised what i was good at, just like many, i like to comment  just by sitting in one place! (that's the most easiest and stress free job you know!).. so i decided to make the utmost use of wifi which is being provided free to the students of Sastra University. yes! Am One of them! just another engineering student in this country, and just because i mentioned free wifi, please do not think "Wow! those guys get Internet connection for free". well actually its not tat fast..in fact not at all faster.( SssHhh! do not tell that outside..let this be within us). So this blog thing occurred to me and since i was watching India vs England match that time, i Attributed my Blog to Cricket! (funny flashback though). So Ladies And Gentlemen, from now on i wish to comment on recent news about cricket. Please do not ask where is the post on the fourth ODI.. i will surely try posting about the entire series..soon!! And One more thing, since this is my first blog, just like others i would like to ask "please kindly tolerate if its too bad".. catch you guys soon!!
